My Journey to ASIST
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were at a complete loss as to what to do, what to say, or how to help? Well, that was me...

In late 2023, I received a call to tell me that someone whom I love and care for deeply, was having thoughts of suicide and this caught me completely off guard. As a trained counsellor and life coach, I searched my mental toolbox for the right words of support, but for me, I felt completely ill equipped to navigate the situation.

The support that we offered was good, and it was necessary, but, for the most part, I felt like I was winging it over those months.

I had previously heard of ASIST, so when the opportunity came up to attend a training, I jumped at the chance. The 2 day ASIST training equipped me and taught me how to better navigate a conversation with a person who is having thoughts of suicide. To me, this is invaluable and the message became too important not to share, with anyone who would listen.

My journey didn't end there.
Inspired by our loved one and his struggles, I took my ASIST learning further, and in 2024, I became a qualified ASIST trainer. This means I now have the opportunity to spread the word and train other people these key suicide intervention skills.

The more people trained and equipped, the more we promote and encourage a suicide safer community.
People who struggle with thoughts of suicide shouldn't be left to deal with their pain on their own, and they shouldn't be expected to just get over themselves. We are all part of community, and the responsibility lies with all of us to be the eyes and ears and to support people who are struggling with thoughts of suicide.
TRAINING PROGRAMS
Our 2 day, face-to-face, LivingWorks ASIST workshops, are designed to equip individuals, groups and organizations with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform a suicide intervention.

During the training, participants will learn to support a person with thoughts of suicide by exploring the warning signs, asking directly about suicide, they will develop their listening skills, hear the person's story and will learn to identify turning points to promote safety-for-now.
